A DEER FARM in north-east Fife has been targeted by campaigners apparently linked to the extremist Animal Liberation Front.
Fences were cut in four fields at Reediehill Deer Farm near Auchtermuchty and graffiti including “Scum” was spray-painted on the ground.
However, none of the 50 to 60 red deer tried to escape.
The farm, run by Fletchers of Auchtermuchty, is free-range and Nichola Fletcher, who owns it with her husband John, said the wrong people were targeted.
The couple pride themselves on their animal welfare practices, and Mrs Fletcher said, “These people have made up their minds without coming to find out about us.
“I would love to invite them for a cup of tea and explain to them what we are trying to do here.
“The whole point of us setting up our deer farm in the 1970s was that we weren’t happy with farming systems and wanted to change things for the better.”

A DRAG FOR FISH
FISH have feelings, too, according to the folks at PETA, who are taking aim at writer Josh Kilmer-Purcell. The author, whose best-selling memoir, "I Am Not Myself These Days," chronicles his double life as an ad exec-cum-drag performer, was put on notice last week by the animal-rights group's "Fish Empathy Project" for alleged cruelty to goldfish. As his whip-cracking alter-ego, Aquadisiac, Kilmer-Purcell donned a pair of clear plastic breasts filled with live goldfish. Says PETA: "It would be, for you, like living in a covered bathtub that's constantly moving, tossing you around as you defecate in it. It's filthy, painful and terrifying for these animals."
Aw, they're goldfish; they'll get over it in a couple seconds.
